Extended Hours
We now offer GP & Healthcare Assistant appointments here at the surgery between 18:30 - 20:00 on Tuesday evenings. These can be booked by the usual means.
There are also appointments with GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Physios, Pharmacists and Healthcare Assistants at other local health centres each weekday evening until 8pm and also on Saturdays.
Please contact the surgery as normal on 01484 500921 to book one of these extended hours appointments which may be phone or face to face at one of our partner practice's sites.
The other practices in our Network who host these services are; The Unversity Health Centre, The Whitehouse Centre, Greenhead Familty Doctors, Almondbury Surgery, Junction Surgery, Dalton Surgery or the Waterloo Practice.
When We Are Closed
At night or on a weekend please call the NHS 111 Service on 111 calls to this number are free from landlines and mobiles. This service will be able to book you an appointment or arrange a visit from a GP outside our opening hours although this will not be your usual GP.
Emergency Medication Supplies
If you run out of your medications and the surgery is closed, please speak to your usual pharmacist and they may be able to provide an emergency supply or call 111.
Kirklees Walk-in Centre
Kirklees Walk-in centre is in the grounds of Dewsbury Hospital, opposite the main entrance, and offers a nurse led service for minor illnesses and injuries.
The Centre is open from Monday to Friday 09:00 to 18:30.
Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
Facilities for those with Disabilities
The practice premises have wheelchair access via a ramp although unfortunately no disabled toilet facilities are available due to the nature and age of the building. There is a doorbell by the main entrance in case you need help getting into the building. We’re happy to help – just ask!
Stairs a Problem?
To better aid our less able patients and visitors we can arrange for them to be seen on the ground floor if they cannot manage the stairs, please do let reception know when you are booking if your require this. Downstairs Nurse appointments will normally need to be between 13:00 – 15:00 when the ground floor room is not in use by the GP.
NHS 111 Online
111 online is a fast and convenient alternative to the 111 phone service and provides an option for people who want to access 111 digitally.
Your needs will be assessed and you will be given advice about whether you need:
- Treat yourself at home
- Go to a Primary Care Centre
If you need face to face medical attention you may be asked to attend a Primary Care Centre.
Click here to access NHS 111 online or call 111 to speak to a staff member.
Staff Training Closures
Our practice has a planned closure each month for training activities. This is held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 1pm to 6pm. We re-open for the later evening surgery after the training session 6pm to 8pm.
During these sessions, we have in-house training as a Practice Team or attend workshops arranged by Kirklees CCG with both Clinical, Administrative and Legal topics for our staff.
It's a great opportunity for us to update our knowledge on specific topics and clinical conditions, network with professional colleagues and share best practice in treatment options. We also find out about changes in NHS policy coming in the pipeline to ensure we are prepared.
If you require urgent medical attention that cannot wait until we re-open on these days, please call the normal surgery number and you will be put through to West Yorkshire Urgent Care Services who can arrange for a GP to contact you and visit you as clinically required.
